Organic-inorganic hybrid solid-state optical materials and the related instruments is a new research field in materials and information science. Solid-state tunable dye laser has wide range of applications in many areas for its advantages including high laser output energy, broad tunable range, good beam quality and reliability, and miniaturization and has been studied intensively in recent years. In this work, various laser dyes were co-doped into ORMOSILs. The interaction and energy transfer mechanism of different kinds of co-doped dyes couples was studied using steady-state emission spectra, the UV-Vis absorption spectra. The lasing properties of such energy transfer dye lasers and the two-photon absorption properties had also been investigated.Under the excitation of 532nm laser, the energy transfer mechanism was studied. The triplet state of p567 and p-red molecules were quenched by ground state C440 effectively, which improved the fluorescence intensity and the photostability of the energy acceptor. The laser performance of p567, p-red co-doped with different concentration of coumarin dye C440, C460, C503, C540A into MTES-and VTES-derived organically modified silicates (ORMOSILs) by sol-gel process were investigated and found their optimized coumarin concentration. The laser efficiency of p-red co-doped with these four coumarin dyes improved largely, when C540A: p-red at 5: 1, the laser efficiency was improved by 112.3%, and its laser threshold decreased, peak position blue shifted. But only marginal improvement in that of p567 could be obtained, its laser threshold and peak position had no change. The broad tunable range of p-red, p567 co-doped with these coumarin dyes were extended obviously, and the efficiency of energy transform also increased clearly.Under the excitation of 1064nm laser, the properties of tow-photon absorption (TPA) of p567, p-orange and p-red were investigated and got their TPA coefficient and TPA absorption cross section. The fluorescence intensity of TPA was in direct ratio with square of incident energy consistency. It was found that the fluorescence intensity of p-red was improved 30% co-doped with TPAI, which had large TPA coefficient.
