| With the rapid improvement of people living condition, much attention has been paid to fire hazard. The synthesis of flame retardants and study of flame-retarded polymer material become more and more important. This paper introduced the preparation methods, application and flame-retarded mechanism of Resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate)(RDP). The properties and flame- retarded mechanism of RDP in EP, RDP/OMMT and RDP/SiO2 in PC/ABS have not been reported.Resorcinol solved in phosphorus oxychloride , continuously feed to the reactor. under catalyst aluminum chloride .Through our experiments, we come to the optimal reaction conditions of synthesis of Resorcinol bis(dichlorosphate), It is that molar ration of phosphorus oxychloride/resorcinol was 6:1; reaction temperature was 90100℃, reaction time was 5h, catalyst was 0.65% of total phosphorus oxychloride and the yield reached 96.2%. Resorcinol had been reacted completely inspected by FT-IR. Resorcinol bis(diphenyl phosphate) was prepared from the intermediate under the follow optimal reaction condition,phenol continuously added to reactor, addition temperature was 120℃, holding temperature was 140160℃. The syntheses of RDP reaction conditions were as follow: molar ration of resorcinol /phenol was 1:4.2,reaction time was 4h,catalyst was 0.5% of intermediate and the yield reached 84%.The properties of physical and chemical of RDP are close to product of foreign countries. RDP is an additive of fire-retardant, the preparation of fire-retardant RDP/EP has unreported. As the content of RDP added in resin was about 11wt% ,the epoxy resins pass the UL94V-0 test ,The limiting oxygen index(LOI)reached 30.4%. Cone parametes have been show that RDP/EP the peak heat release rate (p-HRR) of RDP/EP and EP was 513.77KW·m-2 and 718.40KW·m-2 respectively,it can be reduced by 28.5%.
