The liquefaction of biomass is an effective way to utilize biomass and lessen the immense pressure of energy shortage. By liquefying the bamboo with sulfuric acid, we can not only utilize processing residues, but produce many useful chemicals as well. The thesis is about sulfuric acid-catalyzed phenolated bamboo, and the product after the liquefied bamboo was studied deeply by producing adhesive. At present, people have not completely understood the liquefaction mechanism, the properties of liquefied product, and utilization of liquefied product. The thesis had researched into these problems.The four factors are reaction time, temperature, phenol-bamboo ration, and catalyst content, which were analyzed. The ranges of the factors were 20 minute to 60 minute, 115℃ to 145°C, 2.5 to 3.5, and 2% to 4% respectively. The optimum conditions of liquefaction with phenol are determined through orthogonal design. The result is as follows, the reactive time is 60 min, the reactive temperature is 145°C, phenol-bamboo ratio is 3.5, and the catalyst content is 4%. The efficiency of liquefaction is 99.1 %, and the bonded phenol is 62.5%.The absorbance peak of FTIR showed that the components of bamboo were phenolated. The products of liquefied bamboo were more active. The chemical structures of bamboo were broken to unit structures after liquefaction through analyzing the liquefied bamboo by 1H and 13C. The process making adhesive was studied by single factor experiments. These adhesives were opaque, even, viscous liquid with black color. They had the physical properties with viscosities of 580 mPa·s to 670 mPa·s, and solid contents of 38% to 42%. The absorbance bands of those adhesives are conformed to that of PF, with difference in intensity of peak. The intensity of absorbance peak between bamboo adhesive and PF is most approximate when the molar ratio of liquefied product to formaldehyde is 2.1. Those bamboo adhesives have lower polymerized temperature, and curing temperature than the PF. Curing temperature of bamboo adhesives may be 130°C. Poplar plywood has good mechanical properties which were bonded together by these adhesives made of liquefied bamboo. The glue strength, Modulus of Elasticity, and Modulus of Rupture between the adhesive and PF are unanimous when the ratio of liquefied product to formaldehyde is 2.1. When the temperature is 140°C, the bonding strength is 1.65MPa, which meets to the requirement of I-plywood. The material costs of the adhesive made liquefied bamboo are lower than that of PF.
