The oxy-fluoride silicate glasses co-doped with Yb3+/Er3+, oxy-fluoride borate glass ceraics co-doped with Yb3+/Ho3+ and oxy-fluoride borate glasses co-doped with Yb3+/Ho3+ were prepared. The optimum composition of three types of glasses was discussed, respectively. The melting temperature and time, annealing temperature and time and the micro-crystallization process were investigated by investigating the prearation techanics of the three types of up-conversion glasses. The up-conversion glasses were characterized by emission spectra, absorption spectra, TG-DTA curve, XRD and refracive index. The relationship between pumping power and relative intensity of green and red emissions were discussed. Ground state absorption, excitation state absorption and energy transfer were used in discusing the up-conversion mechanism of the glasses were proposed.
