The camshafts and crankshafts are the key components for automobile engines and other internal-combustion engines, they are in great and various kinds of demand. Moreover, the demands for precision of them are very strict. Their machining quality determines the quality of engines, which directly influences the quality of car products; their machining efficiency determines the competitive power of automobile industry. To ensure the high efficiency, high contour precision and high flexibility in the machining of camshafts and crankshafts, a new method, known as"Tangential point tracing grinding", was brought forward. This thesis systemically studied the key technologies involved in design and test of camshaft grinder and crankshaft grinder according to the principle of tangential point tracing grinding.On the base of the constant removal rate of the metal material, the motion model of tangential point tracing grinding of Non-round parts should be given respectively according to type of the parts . For crank, two motion models are given. The first is the transverse motion model of the wheel-head. The second is the rotating motion model of the work-piece.Based on these motion models, simulation procedures have been programmed. Through such procedures, the data of the wheel-head's transverse motion and the work-piece's rotating motion is calculated respectively. Considered the capability of the servo system and the constraint of the movement components'inertia, for the application of the constant removal rate of the metal material thesis, these data has been optimized.A series grinding experiments are proceeded to verify the grinding principium and motion model of tangential point tracing grinding. In these experiments, for the purpose of high contour precision and high surface quality of the work-piece, the error compensation technology and vibration grinding technology has been applied, the grinding techniques have been optimized in the aspects of the grinding wheel's dressing, the quality of the grinding process, etc. These technologies have great effects on the grinding process.
