It's an important trend for waterborne coating to replace solvent coating as exterior coating. But the application and development of waterborne coating is limited for its insufficient stain resistance ability. The emulsion is one of the most important determinant factors of emulsion coating's performance, to a great extent , the stain-resistance ability of emulsion.In this article, on the basis of"the latex particle design", the emulsions with soft-core/hard-shell were obtained by multistep polymerization. There are two ways to improve the emulsion performance. One is mixing the functional monomers, which makes the MFT of the core polymer lower, so means the good film form ability to the exterior coating and the shell polymer of the latex particle. While the hard shell contribute to a higher rigidity and lower exterior energy. Therefore, core-shell emulsion helps to play an important role in improving the stain resistance ability of acrylic emulsion exterior coating. The other is making a special structure of emulsion particle, In which the core is SiO2, the shell is organic material. When the latex solidifies, the organic part offers good film form ability, and the inorganic part contributes the high rigidity, enduring, and stain resistance ability. Therefore, the stain resistance ability of exterior coating is improved.In this article, formula ingredients and polymerization technology were studied, the transmission electron micrograph (TEM) was adopted to test the structure of latex particle of emulsion, and the Malvern laser zatasizer nano-ZS90 was to test the size and size distribution of latex particle. The influence of parameters on the comprehensive performance of core-shell emulsion and exterior coating were studied systematically. the parameters include the type of latex morphology,MFT,cross-linking monomer,polymerizing emulsifier and mixing silicon,fluorid monomers. The other hand the prescription design and craft were researched. The form of SiO2, the Tg of the shell of latex particle, the way of polymerization, the quantity of SiO2 and emulsion, and the mixing of fluorid are included. Every factor influencing on the latex and the stain resistance ability were hoped to be found ultimately. The types of latex particles make have a great effect on latex and coating. Its film quality greatly depends a lot on the performance of shell. From the stain resistance point, the performance from well to bad is soft-core/rigid-shell, rigid-core/soft-shell, common latex.
