With the developments in science and technology, the machine tool also tends to high-speed, efficient, precise and automation. The requirement of performance is also higher and higher. In order to make machine tool have high-speed, high-efficient and high-quality capability, the structures must have well dynamic characteristics. The dynamic characteristics of machine tool influence the performance, efficiency, stability and reliability of the mechanical structure greatly. It has become the very important evaluation target of the performance of machine tool. Therefore, the improvement of the dynamic characteristic has become the most important research subject of the mechanical industry. In this paper, dynamic characteristics of XK717 CNC milling machine are analyzed by using EMA (Experimental Modal Analysis) technology, supported by a key project of Zhejiang Province. After analyzing the results, the defective parts of the machine tool are found. And the advices are provided to modify the structure of the machine.In chapter 1, development trends of CNC machine tool at present are introduced. Problems of CNC machine tool at home are pointed by means of analyzing the present situations. Moreover, Importance and development of study on dynamic characteristics of machine tools are summarized. Finally, the main contents of this paper are given.In chapter 2, the theory on dynamic analysis of machine tool based on EMA ( Experimental Modal Analysis ) and ODS ( Operational Deflection Shapes ) is summarized.
