The single-screw extruder can be widely used in many fields because of its merits, such as sample structure and low cost, and so on. More and more researchers pay attention to the design of the mixer because of the poor mixing performance of the single-screw extruder. Generally, the design of mixer was based on experiences, which would cost more time to test the mixer. It could result in the waste of manpower and resource.In this paper, screw mixer is designed according to the open literature and existing experience. The main design method and how to create FEM model is also emphasized. Moreover, Three-dimensional flow behavior of polymer melt in the screw mixer is simulated with POLYFLOW. The distribution of velocity, pressure and shear rate in the flow field is analyzed. Some inappropriate analyses of screw mixer in the open literature are pointed out. Flow state under different geometric parameters is simulated through varying the geometric parameters. Effects of geometric parameters on the flow state in the mixer are analyzed, and some optimized geometric parameters are obtained.
