Zinc powders are used widely in the fields of metallurgy, chemistry, medicine, battery, paint, etc. With the development of industry of hot dip galvanizing, a mass of hot galvanizing slag are produced. The hot galvanizing slag is hazardous due to the presence of different metal viz. lead, cadmium, etc. This work is to prepare zinc powders by alkaline zinc electrowinning from hot galvanizing slag, resolve problems such as regrown and recovery zinc, environmental protection etc. Specific surface area of zinc powders obtained is 3.9m2g-1, the impurity content is 0.23% (Cd, Pb, Cu, Fe) and particles size is less of 10μm after grindding. The results of research indicate electrolyte temperature and additives have an important effect on slow-corrosion property and morphological structures of zinc powders.Nano-ZnO, as a new kind of functional materials, has special properties and application in the field of magnetism, electricity, sensitivity, antibiosis and antipoisoning, ultraviolet ray shield, etc. The research of hierarchical structure materials also becomes hot.
