| Titanium alloys suffer from the serious disadvantages of poor tribological properties, in order to solve this problem this paper proposed to form nitrided layers on Ti6A14V alloy by glow discharge nitriding technique. The component, microhardness, electrochemical corrosion, tribological properties of nitrided layers have been studied. The main results have been obtained as follows:1. The component and structure of surface-modified layer have been studied. When the transmitter is nitrogen (no H) and ammonia (include H), the modified layer can be obtained. The modification layer is composed of Ti2N, TiN and α-Ti. The microhardness tests shows that nitrided layer enhance the surface strength of Ti6A14V substrate. The average values of hardness the nitrided layer fabricated at 980℃ are HK1846, 5.27 times as that of Ti6A14V substrate. The hardness profile and the chemical components from top to inside show a gradient characteristic. |
