Study On Form Design Of Ming-style Chair

Furniture-making in China has a history of thousands of years with its distinctive characteristics. Ming-style furniture, as a classic Chinese furniture style, has high artistic, scientific and historical values, and is regarded as one of the best designs in the world furniture history. The spirits of simplicity, modest, elegance and humble embedded in its design all reflect the essentials of the Chinese ancient design philosophy. By studying Ming-style chair design in terms of design background, forms, aesthetic value, as well as from different perspectives from the Chinese and the Western design cultures, this study describes the contents and ideas of Ming-style chair designs, and proposes new thoughts regarding design innovation. The purpose is to provide suggestions and implications for today's furniture design practices by referring to our precious cultural legacy.
