As one of foundation technology in the field of high-tech, ultra-precision machining has become a supporting technology in the development of science and technology. Precision and ultra-precision machine tool play a crucial role in research of ultra-precision machining. The accuracy of traditional ultra-precision machine tool is guaranteed by the accuracy of fundamental components. But, it is difficulty to improve machining precision by improving the precision of fundamental components. With the development of manufacture technology, micro feed mechanism is widely used in the field of ultra-precision machining. It can achieve precision micro displacement, and can also compensate error in the process of cutting in order to guarantee the precision and surface quality. So micro feed mechanism has been became an important part in the field of ultra-precision machining. The study in this paper is very important for improving machining precision and the quality of piece surface.A stepping micro feed mechanism is designed, which has large travel with high resolution, driven by PZT, transmitted by ball screws and supported by air static guided way. The paper tests the characteristic of PZT through experiments, and obtains characteristic curve. Base on the theory of gas lubrication, the paper derives and analyzes the analytical equation of static character of air static guided way.The preloading device designed in this paper product pressure with the flexible four bars mechanism which is driven by PZT. The flexible four bars mechanism is modeled and calculated with FEM, then the distributing of displacement and stress under static press is obtained. The mechanics characters of friction drive mechanism, surface contact characters and some the relations between frictions drive and precision orientation is analyzed. The paper investigates the problem of drive torque and transmission stiffness, achieves the factors influencing on drive torque and the formula of transmission stiffness.The open-loop control model of the stepping micro feed mechanism is established, and experiments are performed based on the model.
