| Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) is cubical organic-inorganic hybrid materials,its abbreviation is (RSiO1.5)n or Tn (n=1,2,...).The special cage-structure of POSS has fine effect of modifying other polymer. The primiary content of this paper is the technic of branching POSS and the relationship between the test results of nanoindentation and the the thickness of hybrid films.The sol–gel method is an effective method of synthesizing inorganic/organic hybrid materials.The method is used in this paper.γ-APS(Gamma-Aminopropyl triethoxysillane) and PGE(Glycidyl phenyl ether) are used to synthesis intermediate(SP1 or SP2) of POSS, the hydrolytic condesation of SP2 or SP1can be generated POSS with catalyst. The structure of POSS is attributed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Gel Permeation Chromatography, Nuclear magnetic resonance and Mass Spectrography: the core of POSS is hexhedral cages which are linksged with Si-O-Si, each silicon vertex can accept one branch which has two active hydroxyl group, so POSS has eight branches.POSS can be modified by the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) epoxy and the different thickness of hybrid films have been synthesized by the modified POSS. The nanoindentation and nanoscratch method were used to determine the mechanical capability of the htbrid films by the MTS Nano Indenter XP system.The desults showed that the thickness of hybrid films had a great effect on the hardness and elastc modules.The appropriate thickness of hybrid films had fine interfacial adhesion and bond strength.The desult of SEM showed that the thickness of hybrid film is 7μm.The hybrid films of POSS modified by epoxy can apploy on the surface of anti-corrosion.And the electrochemistry corrosion test shows that the hybrid films has fine capability.POSS with more hydroxyl can be polymerized with other polymer.Quantity of modified materials on curing reaction (epoxy/POSS) were measured by DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetery).
