In this dissertation, the properties and crystal structure of hydroxyapatite (HAP) were introduced, domestic and foreign situations of research and application about hydroxyapatite were expounded and the problems and the future development of hydroxyapatite material were discussed. Hydroxyapatite material was studied in details through two aspects: the synthesis of Hydroxyapatite powder and the fabrication of Hydroxyapatite ceramic.Firstly, with the help of Orthogonal Test Method, Hydroxyapatite powder was synthesized from Ca(NO3)2·4H2O and P2O5 with Sol-gel method, and XRD, SEM and TG-DTA, and so on, were employed to investigate the influences of calcined temperature and dispersant (Tween-60) upon the characters of hydroxyapatite powder. The results show that the resultant hydroxyapatite particle is a spherical or ellipsoidal granule with a uniform size of 6586nm, and the analysis results indicate that the optimized technological parameter is A3B4C3D3, the calcined temperature of Hydroxyapatite powder is 600℃700℃and it is not advisable to add tween-60 into the mixed solution with more than 5vol%. Also, the chemical mechanism of sol-gel synthesizing Hydroxyapatite were investigated through analyzing the ethanol solution of P2O5 and Ca(NO3)2·4H2O, the Hydroxyapatite precursor powder and the Hydroxyapatite precursor powders calcined at different temperature with analytical methods of FTIR and XRD.Secondly, hydroxyapatite composite ceramics were prepared with the matrix of high-qualified hydroxyapatite powder synthesized with the optimized technological parameter, respectively using potassic feldspar, B2O3 and ZrO2 as additives. And XRD, SEM and the mechanical test methods—three-point bending and SENB, were utilized to investigate the phases, surface microstructure and mechanical properties of hydroxyapatite composite ceramic samples, respectively.
