With the development trend for high speed, high precision and automatization the machine tool dynamic characteristics has been a key index of its behavior. It has been an important idea to decrease the machining vibration of a machine tool utilizing dynamic design method. However, most of the domestic machine tool designs, which stay in the experiential, analogical and static design stage, seldom consider the dynamic characteristics. Therefore, the design cycle of domestic products is longer but the precision is much lower than that of the overseas. Based on the project"the exploitation for numerical controlled high-speed, high-precision centreless grinder external", this paper presents the dynamic optimum design of MK11150, a centreless grinder with FEM structure analysis. The objective is to improve the lower natural frequencies. A novel FEA model of the precise centreless grinder is built and based on the model the influence of the bed structure on its dynamic behavior is studied. The result indicates that a proper type of rib walls would effectually promote the dynamic behavior of the bed. A further analysis of the integrated grinder is carried out, and the deficiencies of the structure are found out and optimized considering the lower mode shapes and the actual force-state in machining. The FEA result shows that the dynamic behavior of the grinder is greatly improved by redesign. Finally, a novel grinder equipped with polymer concrete material bed is explored, which ends this paper.
