The domestic sewage is treated by activated sludge in the northern part of China. Temperature can affect the enzyme-urge reaction, multiplication and endogenesis metabolism of microbe in activated sludge, gross oxygen-transfer coefficient, activated sludge sedimentation and viscidity of sewage. Therefore, the domestic sewage treatment plants in the northern part of China always have some problems as the activated sludge floc is small and incompact, the amount of microbe which can degrade organism is small and the activity of microbe is low and so on. These can affect the efficiency of domestic sewage treatment at low temperature. To solve these problems, now the sewage treatment plant always decrease the load of sludge, increase quantity of reflux and increase the HRT, some plants even take the method of thermal retardation. These can increase the cost of the engineering and sometimes could not solve the problem. So it has great significance to seek the process which has high efficiency in the low temperature. In this paper, a modified SBR process has been designed, which is called suspended carrier dividing SBR process and also called MESBR process. The MESBR reactor divide the SBR reactor to two parts, the first part is filled with the suspended carriers and the second part is the conventional SBR reactor. The two parts are connected with the holes at the bottom of the partition. The MESBR process takes the biomembrane to the SBR process, increases the biomass, decreases the load of sludge and makes the biological chain complex. So MESBR process can increase the treatment effection in the normal and low temperature and can solve the problems of sewage treatment in cold areas. It provides the theoretical and the practical basis for design and running of domestic sewage treatment plant in the northern part of China.In this paper, the design, processing and running parameters are confirmed; the effection of MESBR process and SBR process in the normal temperature are compared; the affection of the low temperature on the rules of organic pollutants degradation and the nitrogen removal in the two processes are provided; and at last the application in engineering is studied.First, the design, processing and running parameters are confirmed.
