Nowadays it is one of the difficult problems and hot spots in waster treatment fields, that how to reduce the production of excess sludge. Up to now, there is no practical, economical and effective sludge reduction technique put forward. Based on the present research status of sludge reduction technology both in and abroad, this paper put forward a new sludge reduction technology by using Cu2+ and chemical uncoupler to reduce the sludge production, with the viewpoint of using waste to treat waste.Through the test, 2,6-dichlorophenol was screened out to be the best uncoupler, the best performance conditions of which were: the addition was 20 mg/L, MLSS was 2500 mg/L, DO was about 5.5 mg/L.The sludge yield, performance and microbial community were investigated under the joint influence of Cu2+ and uncoupler in both and flow-through mode of activated sludge treatment process. Result demonstrated that the existence of Cu2+can definitely enhance the sludge reduction effect, with the yield of sludge reduced to 75% in batch mode and 69% in flow-through mode in comparation to the control experiment. Removal of C, N, and P together with settlement property dropped under the influence of Cu2+ and uncoupler. Removal of C was less affected compared with N and P. SVI of sludge was slightly increased without seriously affected the treatment process. The uncoupler was found to increase activity of microorganism while the Cu2+ depressed the activity, and the overall result was uncertain. Microorganism population configuration and preponderant microbe changed. The zoogloea became loosen, filamentous bacteria in the sludge increased, quantity and type of protozoon and metazoa reduced. Result indicated that long-term effect of Cu2+ and uncoupler on reducing treatment performance was less than short-term effet. And there was no resistant of microbe to Cu2+ and uncoupler in long-term.The mutual effect of Cu2+ and uncoupler was studied. Result showed that existence of uncoupler can facilitate the removal of Cu2+ while existence of Cu2+ affected the removal of uncoupler.All the above results showed that good sludge reduction can be achieved by...
