An excellent adsorbent materials, activated carbon has extensive application in the fields of industry, agriculture, medicine and military. Phenolic resin-based spherical activated carbon has many advantages, such as high mechanical intensity, high carbonization yield, better adsorption properties, so it has been received more attention by many researchers in the world.First, phenolic resin spheres is made from the phenolic resin (PF) precursor which is synthesized with phenol and formaldehyde by suspension method. Second, the spherical activated carbon is prepared by the processes of carbonization and activation with stabilization phenolic resin spheres. The effects of including the mole ratio of material components, sphericizing conditions, stabilization, carbonization and activation on the iodine value and benzene value, are discussed in the thesis. The results show that sphericity is over 0.960 and the amount of sphere size from 20 to 40mesh is over 95%; and the suitable sphericizing conditions are the sphericizing temperature 95℃, the weight percentage of sphere size from 450 ~ 900μm is over 45wt%; and the suitable sphericizing conditions are the sphericizing temperature 95℃, stirring rate 2000rpm, stirring time 10min, phenolic resin 6wt%, the weight constitution of solution, water: curing agent content: CaF2: KCl: sodium dodecyl sulphate: octadecyle trimethyl ammonium bromide = 92.70: 3.07: 1.45: 2.76: 9.52×10-3: 1.52×10-2. The spherical activated carbon is made at the stabilization heating rate 1℃.min-1, stabilization temperature 180℃ , stabilization time 120min and carbonization heating rate 2℃.min-1 , carbonization temperature 800℃, carbonization time 80min and activation temperature 800℃, activation time 1h, water vapor flux 0.4ml.min-1. Under optimum conditions, the specific surface area, iodine value and benzene value, yield and intensity of the spherical activated carbon are 726m2.g-1, 907mg.g-1, 273mg.g-1, 47.51%, 9.85N/granule, respectively.
