Most of coal-tar produced is "water in oil" emulsion; coal-tar is continuous phase while water is dispersed phase. The emulsification of coal-tar is so serious that difficult to process and use, and bring some problem on vendition and afterward process. So coal-tar must be dehydrated before distillation, it is therefore necessary to provide a means of sufficiently and economically separating the emulsion. Microwave is a sort of cleanly and economical energy sources, and since years increasingly receive much recognition. There is tentative research on microwave technology apply to coal-tar dehydration in the paper.The experiment used modified home microwave oven as heater and tested heat up uniformity. We selected coal-tar dehydrating volume as investigative subject and investigate process conditions of coal-tar dehydration. In the experiment, We seeing about effect of micro wave power, microwave radiating time,coal-tar mass, reflux solvent and hydrous radio of coal-tar on dehydration, accordingly we attempt to find suitable process conditions of coal-tar dehydration. We compared difference between general heating dehydration and microwave radiating dehydration in this paper.By repeating error analysis experiments, there is not serious error on data in the experiments. Thus it can be seen that process of microwave radiating coal-tar dehydration is feasible, and by experiments, we can conclude the appropriate process methods: coal-tar is 100.0g, microwave power is medhigh, viz 260w, refluxing solvent is Toluene, and its volume is 20ml, dehydrating time is 76s.In the experiment, thus it can be seen that the higher water content of coal-tar is, the higher dehydrating volume is, the better dehydrating result is. In the experiment, we measured viscosity of microwave radiated coal-tar, as a result microwave heating also reduce viscosity of coal-tar.By compare microwave radiating with general heating, working process is brief and safety, heating is uniformity, dehydrating speed is rapidly, and the process have widely applicable foreground.
