Flying shear is widely used in steel enterprises, to cut steel strip, steel bar, or other types of steel billet to proper shape or specified length. After this shearing process, the billets with proper shape, or length, can be processed in next procedures. With higher efficiency and better product quality, flying crank shear is more popular than other type of shear. Flying crank shear consist of high power direct current electrical motor, retarder, fly wheel, material convey passage, machine frame, shearing mechanism and explore/control system. Hence, to design a flying shear must take their relationship and their dynamic property into account.In this paper, the author investigates the flying crank shear in Hot Rolling Factory of Baosteel Co., Ltd in Shanghai, China, analysis its dynamic property, and then optimize design its shearing mechanism.
