Continuing industrial and commercial growth in many countries around the world in the past decades has been accompanied by rapid increases in both the municipal and industrial solid waste generations. In the foreseeable future, landfilling continues to be the primary means of MSW disposal. Besides scarcity of available landfill sites, a large amount of leachate generated from a landfill site poses as a major problem of landfill disposal of MSW. Proper treatment of the leachate has therefore had been a challenging problem confronting the local governments.Landfill leachate has been generally known as a high-strength wastewater that is most difficult to deal with. This is due primarily to its large variability of organic, inorganic and heavy metal contents, strongly depending on the age and type of solid wastes of a landfill site. Satisfactory treatment of leachate is thus no easy task.In this paper, the advanced treatment of leachate was done aiming at the effluent of aged refuse bed, to meet the discharge rate of state standard of this field. Foremost, the landfill leachate quality was analyzed using several technologies such as ICP-AES, GC-MS, AOX analyzer, results showed that the main components of COD is the low-degradability organic matter, the ratio between BOD and COD is small, and the waste water has a comparative...
