The range of filtration of ultrafiltration (UF) is between that of microfiltration (MF) and that of reverse osmosis (RO) (or nanofiltration (NF)). UF can effectively remove microorganism and turbidity in water. It is widely applied into the fields of food, medicine, biotechnology, and the treatment of drinking water, sewage water and industrial wastewater. It can also used as the preliminary step in the process of RO. Now UF is one of the main membrane separation technologies under development in China. Therefore, this thesis begins with an introduction of the characteristics of LH3-V type industrial UF Membrane made in Litree Company Ltd. in Hainan province, China. It measures the membrane pore size, tensile testing, immersed testing and flow testing. The result shows that LH3-V series have the merits of small pore size, strong tensile, excellent effect in immersed and high flow, suffer under acid and alkali and low price. These merits are very helpful to control the production cost and make a wide application of this technology.Secondly, all UF membranes made by Litree Company operate by the inside-out type. The advantage of it is that has a high flow under low pressure while its disadvantage is that membrane not only is easily affected by concentration polarization and fouling, but also needs frequent washing. In order to reduce influence of concentration polarization and handle the problem of fouling and washing as soon as possible, this thesis is intended to redesign the membrane configuration according to original membrane product. The experiment in this thesis includes 2 parts:The first part of the experiment is to designs 3 new outside-in UF membrane modules, that is, Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 based on Litree's LH3-0650-V type. Fiber material, pore size and filtration area are also the same except configuration.
