In this paper, according to the principle of reinforced plastics by using rubber, a tricopolymer of acrylate, acrylonitrile, and styrene, as an outdoor-weather and high impact material was designed and developed by emulsion co-polymerization. The manufacture process of modifier was designed.Acrylic rubber latex of large rubber particles was obtained.Grafting latex was treated by conglomeration,washing and drying. The research work includes: the principles of grafting emulsion co-polymerization, the properties of grafting latex.Firstly, the influences of emulsifier, initiator, cross-linking agent, reaction temperature, and reaction time had been studied systematically. PBA latex having a particle diameter of 300nm or more, a gel content of 90% or more, was obtained by one-step emulsion polymerization.Graft copolymer was synthesized then by emulsion grafting co-polymerization, using PBA latex as seed and styrene/acrylonitrile as grafting monomers. The concentration of emulsifier, initiator, the St and AN, and SH, the ratio of St/AN affect on the grafting efficiency were studied.Using double-screw extruder, grafting copolymer was blended with SAN resin to prepare weather-resistant resin. Modified resin has good weather- resistant and impact. The physical and mechanical properties of modified resin have been tested.
