Keyhole plasma arc welding (PAW) is a high-energy and high-efficiency technology, it has a wide application area. However, the welding parameter matching zone of PAW is very narrow. so that the welding quality is unstable. Therefore, how to improve the welding stability in the research field of plasma arc welding is a promising item.The key of penetration control in keyhole PAW is to control the state of the keyhole, and in order to control the state of the keyhole, it is important to control the heat input of welding process. Pulsed current welding method is effective to control heat input.Through adjusting the pulse parameters, the system can adjust the heat input of welding and can increase the welding parameter matching zone of PAW. So it can improve the stability of welding. Therefore, pulsed plasma arc welding and thecontrol system of PAW are studied in the paper.This paper introduces the pulsed plasma arc welding and the control system of PAW. The welding parameter matching zone of PAW is very narrow. If the current is too small, the workpiece will not be penetrated, while if the current is too big ,the workpiece will be cut .Therefore ,this paper focus on introducing how to develop a system to control the welding current. Using this system it can adjust the welding current abased on the during plasma arc welding process, so it can obtain a good weld quality.
