Cold drawing is a kind of methods of manufacturing s-teel tubes. During the drawing course, flow of metal in deformation zone is very complicated, while many factors can be affected by the flow rule, such as size precision of products, stability of drawing course, model's life, energy consumption, and so on. Designing a good model and optimizing the designing of drawing technique must be based on the elaborate description of the processing course and the flow of metal in deformation zone affected by the variation of model and technical parameters. Further, it is an important problem to be solved in practice for developing new drawing technique.In this paper, non-linear finite element method (FEM) and multi physics fields finite element (FE) software (ANSYS) are employed to analyze the process of drawing of a steel tube, the work are as following :(1) two and three dimensional FEM are employed to analyze the processing of both non-mandrel drawing and drawing with a short plug .(2) Calculating model of drawing force is built, a simple method of calculating drawing force is presented.(3) How the drawing force is affected by friction coefficient and model angle is analyzed; the method of calculating optimal model angle is presented, too.(4) The program of analyzing and calculating is programmed, which helps designing a good model and optimizing the designing of drawing technique.
