The zeolite/polymer composite materials were fabricated from zeolite and various biodegradable polymers through inversed emulsion method, and their structure and properties were studied by IR, X-ray and SEM et al. The absoring ability for the metallic ions such as Cu2+, Zn2+ and Pb2+ was investigated. The composite materials were used as carriers to load drugs in order to form drug delivery systems, and the drug releasing characteristics was studied in simulative conditions in vitro.1.The composite materials of Zel/CS, Zel/Gel and Zel/Alg were prepared under different conditions to find out the optinum technology. The results showed that the Zel/Alg composite materials cannot form spheres, while the Zel/CS composite materials can form spheres under certain conditions, and the Zel/Gel composite materials can even form spheres in broad Zel/Gel proportions. The addition of CS or Gel was benefit to increasing the water absorption (WA).2. The Zel based poly-composite materials were prepared by the same method. The SEM showed that composite spheres were formed and the diameters of the spheres of the Zel/CS/Gel composite materials were relatively larger than that of Zel/CS and Zel/Gel spheres. The Zel/CS/Gel/Alg composite materials had high WA.3. The removing rate (E%) of the composite materials to metallic ions was studied by spectrophotometer. The results showed that zeolite alone can absorb metal ions, but it was difficult to separate the zeolite from the water later on. The zeolite composite materials showed better removing rate to metallic ions, and they were easily separated from water because of their large sphere shapes. Adding Alg can also increase the E% of the composite materials, as it had the–COONa group that can exchange metal ions.4. The composite materials were used as the carrier to load drugs such as gentamycin or cefalexin. The pure zeolite drug delivery system released the drugs faster than that of the composite material, which suggested that the polymer can retard the release of the drug. The releasing rate from the gentamycin loaded system was faster than that with cefalexin system owing to their different characteristics Thus the releasing rate and amount of the drugs can be controlled by loading different drugs .
