Stress shielding is an important problem in biomedical implantation, which is caused by the different elastic modulus(EM) between the replacer and the bone. Former researches had found that nano materials had lower EM, however, the reason why the EM of nano materials decreased was divergent.In this research, a new nano surface pure Ti is produced respectively by a sever plastic deformation surface-nanolization: surface mechanical attrition treatment (SMAT). The micro-structure, mechanical properties and electrochemical corrosion properties in physiological saline of the SMAT Ti is studied in this paper. Meanwhile the principles about the changes of these properties are discussed.In this research, it is found that the pure Ti converts to a gradient material after SMAT process. From surface to center, the microstructure of SMAT Ti is non-crystalline/nano-crystalline layer, nano grain layer, micronano grain and coarse grain mixed layer, original coarse grain layer. The nanolization process is relative to the multiplication of dislocations and their movement.Changes of mechanical properties have taken place after the SMAT process.
