In the steel rolling manufacturing, optimization of technology is always an objective people to seek. With the development of computer technology and the increasing requirement of rolling products, such as size accuracy, mechanical capability, production quality, manufacturing cost and innovation cycle, the simulation of whole process of steel rolling and the forecast of manufacture possibility and production precision, using computer, become a necessary measure to enhance the marketability itself. Substituting of traditional design method which depends on experience, design-simulation-optimization method has became developing trend of design on metal forming process. For structural section, through computer aided design method, we can optimize the pass design parameters, technics parameters and equipment parameters to direct the production and the design process of equipment, furthermore, to reduce waste in test, save energy, and satisfy a strict requirement for the size accuracy and mechanics properties. Problems that the designing of steel section mostly depends on experience and the blindness of developing new product was radically resolved. In other words, the reliability of pass design process was enhanced.For what has been noted, angle bar that is between simple and complex lateral section structural steel was taken as research objective, its pass schedule has been optimized using the dynamic programming method and made least consumption of energy for objective function in this paper. At the same time, a computer-aided-rolling pass-design (CARD) system of angle steel was developed in this paper by the usage of Visual Basic 6.0. Achieved the automatization of design of pass schedule for angle bar, export drawing ofpasses, foundation of three dimensional roller model, calculation of force parameter and grain size in rolling process.For the sake of reveal the deformation rule of rolling angle steel further more, a simulation of angle bar rolling with thermal-mechanical coupled was carried out using three dimensional rigid-plastic FEM on the DEFORM platform, which take medium carbon steel steel 45 (Chinese standard) as material model. And gained the regularity of deformation, temperature and microstructure in the angle bar rolling process. Because the FEM model was built according to the result of CARD system, the reliability of the system has been confirmed at the same time.
