This paper has studied the synthesis of hot-melt road marking paint using modified rosin-alkyd resin. This hot-melt road marking paint used modified rosin-alkyd resin as membrane material, while filled in ethylene-vinyl acetate resin, titanium oxide powder, quartz sand, talcum powder, dioctyl phthalate as well as glass micro bead. The synthesis of material resin was also studied in this paper, which including the synthesis of modified rosin resin, alkyd resin oligomers as well as modified rosin-alkyd resin. The rosin was modified using maleic anhydride (called malaya acid anhydride) and glycerine. Influential factors to acid value and softening point of modified rosin resin were discussed, such as the quantity of maleic anhydride, glycerine and reaction temperature, reaction time. The structure and properties were characterized and tested respectively. Through orthogonality experiment, optimal reaction conditions could be determined. The results indicated that the synthetical modified rosin resin has high softening point and shallow colour.Dehydrated castor oil alkyd resin oligomers was prepared using castor oil, glycerol and phthalic anhydride as raw material, lithium hydroxide as catalyst. The prescription was obtained by calculating formula. Through comparing the performance of different oil alkyd resin, 50% oil of alkyd resin oligomer was synthesized. The effect of transesterification temperature, polycondensation time and its temperature were investigated, while dehydration degree of castor oil was controlled. The optimal condition was obtained as follows: castor oil could be dehydrated for 1.5h at 260℃, transesterification was finished at 220℃for 30min,the quantity of LiOH is 0.04% ( the mass percentages of castor oil),polycondensation was completed at 200℃for 4h.Modified rosin - alkyd resin was synthesized using modified rosin resin with 50% oil of alkyd resin oligomer. By discussing the influential factors to the modified rosin-alkyd resin, such as the mass ratio of modified rosin to alkyd resins oligomers, reaction time and reaction temperature, the optimal technological parameters can be obtained. The results indicated that the modified rosin- alkyd resin has good liquidity and its soften point was 118℃.The optimal condition was obtained as follows: mass ratio of modified rosin to alkyd resins oligomers was 4∶1, reaction was finished at 200℃for 1h. As a result, the performance of synthetical modified rosin-alkyd resin accorded with the requirements of hot-melt road marking paint. This hot-melt road marking paint was synthesized using modified rosin-alkyd resin as membrane material, while filling in ethylene-vinyl acetate resin, titanium oxide powder, quartz sand, talcum powder, dioctyl phthalate as well as glass micro bead. Influential factors to the paint were discussed. The optimal reaction conditions were determined through orthogonality experiment. The characters of the hot-melt road marking paint were tested according to the standards. As a result, it tallied with standards. The results showed that this hot-melt road marking paint has a short drying time, high softening point, excellent flexility, eximiously reflective characteristics and it also can resist water, acid and alkaly. The optimal technological parameters of synthesizing the paint were that: 25wt% modified rosin-alkyd resin, 4wt% ethylene-vinyl acetate resin, 8wt% titanium oxide powder, 30wt% quartz sand, 15wt% talcum powder, 3wt% dioctyl phthalate, 11wt% 60~80 mesh of glass micro bead.
