In the conventional process, the parts are measured by other equipment and this will reduce the accuracy and delay the process circle. The modern industry has proposed strict requirement in parts'precision, therefore the demand of on-line measuring is proposed.This paper aims at realizing the part measuring automation. It is realized by the machining center armed with the probe. The system's structure and the principle of the measuring are introduced firstly. According to parts'different characteristics, the method of automatically generating measuring program is discussed.On requirement of AMT, this paper offers one of the most important techniques in CAQC for CIMS, namely how to carry out on-line inspecting and enhance the inspecting accuracy in MC. The geometric errors and thermal errors of the machining center are analysed firstly. Then the modeling of the probe's pre-travel error is established, and the simulation analysis is carried out with MATLAB. Then the measuring data is properly compensated with the probe's error model.On the basis of the former research, based on Windows XP operation system, the software of the pre-travel error compensation techniques in machining center's on-line inspection has been developed. It has been validated with a part in a machining center and the measuring data is compensated. The result shows that the accuracy of the measuring results is improved.Finally, a summary of the research in this paper is concluded and some recommendations for the future research are proposed.
