The Research On STEP-NC Standards

After the analysis of the disadvantages of traditional G&M codes, this article brought the concept of STEP-NC, which is the new standard of numeric control. International standards ISO 10303 & ISO 14649 are researched, which have much to do with STEP-NC.The structure of ISO 10303(STEP standard) is explained. The description methods, implementation methods, application protocols, application integrated constructs , application modules,integrated resources , conformance testing methodology and framework, abstract test suites of STEP are introduced and some important parts of STEP standard are explained. The structure of ISO 14649 standard is also explained.The STEP-NC standards about overview, milling, and turning are introduced respectively.Some international research projects and development about STEP-NC are summarized in the dissertion.On the basis of works above, one of the sample STEP-NC programmes about milling in the appendix of ISO 14649-11 is selected and explained in detail according to the data model specified in ISO 14649.Some problems and the prospect about STEP-NC are discussed.
