ABSTRUCTA serial of blends of polytrimethylene terephthalate(PTT) and polyamide 6(PA6) were prepared at different ratio in this paper, with Surlyn as a compatibilizer. Surlyn was able to compatibilize between PTT and PA6.IR, DSC, WAXD and SEM were used to characterize the compatibilization of the blends of PTT and PA6.It was found that Surlyn could improve the compatibilization of PTT and PA6.The reason is that the Zn in Surlyn could coordinate with the carboxyl groups of PTT and PA6 molecular or the amino group at the end of PA6 molecular chains. This coordination improves the compatibilization of PTT and PA6 largely, which results in better dispersing of PA6 in the matrix of PTT.PTT/PA6 blends of different blending ratio were spun at different condition to prepare PTT/PA6 blend fiber. It was found that when the content of PA6 was lower than 5%(wt), the blend could be spun well and easily. Vocal orientation, WAXD, and mechanical study were used to study the structure and mechanical properties of the blend fibers of PTT/PA6 with different blending ratio. It was found that pure PTT fiber had the lowest orientation. With the increase the content of PA6, the orientation of fiber increases. When the content of PA6 was 3%(wt), the orientation and crystal reached a highest value. The modulus of the fiber showed the same changing trend. When the content of PA6 reached 5%, the mechanical properties of the blend fiber decrease significantly. The blend fiber showed well elastic.The inducing of PA6 in the matrix of PTT destroyed the integrity of PTT crystalline, which led further to the increase of the content of amorphous districts. The study on the dying of the PTT/PA6 blend fiber showed that dye molecular penetrated mainly into the amorphous districts. The blending of PTT with PA6 could increase the dying of blend fiber.PTT/PA6 blend fiber could be dyed at ambient pressure without carrier, with mid-and low temperature dye. A favorite dying temperature was 110(?). Because of the fast dying of the blend fiber, uneven dying might happen when the temperature increased at the rate of 1.5(?)/min. Evenly dying could be carried out when the temperature was increased at the rate lower than 0.8(?)/min. For dispersion dye, the dying process began at the temperature of 60(?), which means that the dying rate at the temperature higher than 60(?) should be delicately controlled. When the pH value of the dying bath was between 5(?)9, the K/S value changed slightly. The blend fiber could be dyed in an even bath, without buffer to adjust the pH value of dying bath. Ciba dispersed black reached a saturated value at o.w.f 7%, dispersed red reached a saturated value at o.w.f 3%.The study on the dying kinetic of dispersed dye on the PTT/PA6 blend fiber showed that the balance dye content on the fiber changed as the changing of the content of PA6 in the blend fiber. When the content of PA6 reached 3%, the dispersing rate of dye in blend fiber was lower than that in pure PTT fiber. In this case, the dispersing index was the lowest. When the content of PA6 in the blend fiber was very low, the dispersing index was slightly changed, with comparable to that of pure PTT fiber.
