The low-temperature plasma in aqueous solution is one of the emerging technologies for water-treatment which appeared in the early 1980's. It has received extensive attention in many fields in the world, due to its high degradation efficiency, instrumental simplicity, and amenability to the environment. It can provide the powerful oxidizing free radicals for the degradation of organic compounds in water by discharge under ordinary conditions. The degradation of dyes is investigated by glow discharge electrolysis in water. We studied reaction pathways and kinetics. This paper includes five chapters:Chapter 1 reviews the application of low temperature discharge plasma technology in the wastewater-treatment.Chapter 2 provides the degradation of eosin by glow discharge electrolysis (GDE). The influence of all kinds of factors is investigated. The degradation thermodynamic parameters and kinetics are discussed.Chapter 3 describes the degradation of crystal violet by glow discharge electrolysis. The effects of electrolyte concentration, applied voltage, pH, H2O2, Fe2+, n-butyl on degradation efficiency have been studied. The possible degradation pathways of crystal violet are proposed.Chapter 4 studies the degradation of crystal violet by dual electrodes, the influence of the applied voltage and pH is investigated. The degradation mechanism of crystal violet is proposed by analyzing IR and UV spectra, the removal of color in the anode and cathode cells.Chapter 5 investigates the yield of H2O2 under different conditions by glow discharge electrolysis in water. Furthermore, the production mechanism of H2O2 is discussed.
