The piggery wastewater has the charactersfic of high ammonia, organism and suspending substance(SS), Production of methane by anaerobic fermentation was generally used in previous treatment ofpiggery wastewater, It is not effective to the removal of ammonia-nitrogen, but make it more difficult toremove nitrogen of anaerobically digested effluent of piggery wastewater by traditionalbio-denitrogenation process. Therefore, it is necessary to study and develop new bio-denitrogenationprocess.The feasibility and performance to treat anaerobically digested effluent of piggery wastewater bySHARON-ANAMMOX process were investigated in this paper. The main results are summarized asfollows:(1) With aerobic activated sludge as the seeding sludge, SHARON reactor was successfully startedup. NO2--N/NOx-N in effluent overtake 80%, NH4+-N/NO2--N is about 1:1, the average removal of totalinorganic nitrogen is 35.42%.(2) When DO was 1.1~1.5mg/L, NH4+-N load was 0.029kg NH4+-N/kgVSS·d and pH was 7.3~7.8, nitrite can be stably accumulated, NO2--N/NOx--N in effluent overtake 90%, NH4+-N/NO2--N isabout 1.0, the effluent satisfies the demands of influent of ANAMMOX.(3) With the Sludge having nitrification and denitrification as seeding sludge, it had activity ofANAMMOX by cultivated and acclimated in 150 days. the color of sludge was gradually changed fromblack to brown and fleet red at length.(4) Under the condition of non-substrate concentration restriction, the variety of NH4+-N/NO2--N ininfluent not only effects the variety of the removal of ammonia-nitrogen, nitrite and total inorganicnitrogen, but has the correlation with the rate between NH4+-N decrement, NO2--N decrement andNO3--N production(5) When concentration of NO2--N achieved 150mg/L, the activity of ANAMMOX is inhibited, andthe inhibition can be released by.adding a small amount of azanol.(6) SHARON process was coupled with ANAMMOX process, when NH4+-N concentration ofinffiuent was 431.09 mg/L ,the average NH4+-N, NO2--N and NO3--N concentration of effluent were35.63mg/L, 12.19mg/L and 23.70mg/L, the average removal of total inorganic nitrogen is 83.31%,SHARON-ANAMMOX has good actual application and economic value.
