Aging mechanisms of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite were studied by weight method, static and dynamic mechanical properties and IR analysis as well as SEM of observation at conditions of thermo-oxidative, UV irradiation and hot-cold alternating. The conclusions were as follows: (1) The hygroscopic ratio of carbon fiber/epoxy resin composite was studied at media, The results showed that the absorption characteristics of the CF/EP composite obeyed Fick's second law in distilled water and NaCl solution, but obeyed non-Fick law in H2SO4 and NaOH solution. Moreover, a higher temperature of solution leaded to a quicker diffusion of water in the composite. (2) The thermo-oxidative effect of CF/EP composite was gained. The results showed that, the weight loss ratio increased exponentially with the increasing of aging time; Thermo-oxidative aging of the composite was controlled by physical aging at 25℃and 100℃, but by both physical aging and chemical aging at 150℃. (3) The effect of UV irradiation on CF/EP composite was studied. The results showed that, UV-curable effect was put on CF/EP composite, and the changes in residual ratio of bending strength of the composite were increased. But at the condition of both UV and water, UV-curable effect was covered by plasticization, changes in properties are caused by swell and plasticization of matrix, interfacial debonding. IR analysis showed that no chemical changes were found. (4) The effect of hot-cold alternating of CF/EP composite was also studied. The results showed that, the flexural properties of CF/EP composite were no changes but chemical changes occurred.
