| An important segment of the metal forming industry is small sheet metal parts forming, moreover when parts for electronic accessories as digital video camcorders are involved; requirements in design, formability, aesthetic and surface finishing are some variables to define high quality and precision. The LCD video camcorder panel cover is an essential part, dimensions and tolerances must fulfill design requirements to assemble and ensure no superficial defects (warp, wrinkle and crack e.). The surface of the cover is quite complex for its small size and some corner radiuses have variable value making the formability analysis and the numerical simulation complicated in many ways. One of the most significant objectives of any method of analysis is to assist engineers in the design of optimal forming sequence, caring about the operations required to transform the initial'simple'geometry into a'complex'geometry, to finally select the best fabrication process for the part. New computer technologies and FEM theory to analyze sheet metal forming has been developed, and simulation of metal flowing processes can provide significant advantages, for example decrease and even eliminate failure, elimination of expensive experimental trials, shorter lead times, more reliable results and even better product quality. This paper, using modeling and numerical simulation-FEM software (Unigraphics and Dynaform respectively), analyzes the formability process and the optimal blank dimensioning of an LCD panel cover. It is relevant to evaluate the geometrical complex design of the part and discuss, following the traditional design method and the experience design, which features are to consider for its formability analysis. Therefore a possible working procedure is proposed and discussed but not well-defined after numerical simulation. Through use of numerical simulation-FEM software Dynaform, the blank dimensions are compared and corrected to finally get an optimal blank dimensioning. |
