The selvage is a important part of fabric. In order to weave glossy and desirable fabric, the selvage device should have simple structure, run nimbly and be able to form steady and dependable selvage. Selvage made on shuttleless looms have four kinds of weaves, which are rope selvage, leno selvage, fold selvage and hot-melt selvage. With the development of science and technology, the demand of automation for textile mechanism is higher . So based on the principle of rope selvage's form, this paper suggests the composition and control method of electronic selvage device with synchronous belt which is controlled by stepper motor.Firstly, based on the working principle of rope selvage, this paper puts forward the design plan of electronic selvage device with synchronous belt. The device's working principle, the rule of motion of warp yarns in selvage and parameters of motion, are discussed detailedly. The diorama of electronic selvage device with synchronous belt is drawn by Pro/Engineer. Secondly, the design process of control system is discussed in detail. The system is mainly to make the device and chief axis of loom synchronous, and described from hardware and software. In the design of hardware, the driving circuit of stepper motor, which adopts constant current chopping, is emphasized. In the design of software, the running program of stepper motor is introduced in detail. Besides, this device can set the opening time by upper computer, so it can be used for more kinds of fabrics. At last, the capability of the device is tested by being used in WG2000 air-jet loom. The experimental results show that the electronic selvage device with synchronous belt could run safely, steadily and dependably, meets the need of design and has simple structure, small bulk and high performance-price ratio. So the device can be used in shuttleless looms widely.
