Carbonyl sulfide is a toxic gas which is presented in petroleum, coal refinery gas and coal gasification stream, and it is corrosive to pipelines and other processing equipment, and is also pollution to the environment. Ethylene glycol is a cheap absorbent of carbonyl sulfide, but carbonyl sulfide is difficult to be absorbed because of its low solubility in ethylene glycol. Thus, it is significant to develop a better absorbent to carbonyl sulfide. In this paper, gas chromatography method has been developed to determine content of sulfur compounds. The results showed that the relative standard derivation of peak area is 1.5%..The two logarithmic value for peak area and the absolute value of COS is linear correlated, and the correlation coefficient is 0.9996.The absorption capability of ethylene glycol-water sestem to carbonyl sulfide was studied under different temperature and different concentration. The results showed that the absorption capability of ethylene glycol was improved when water was added into pure ethylene glycol. The maximum efficiency obtained reached to 15.7421mg/L under the conditions as follows: the concentration of ethylene glycol was 50% and the reaction temperature was 313.15K.In addition, the absorption mechanism of ethylene glycol-water system to carbonyl sulfide was explored. The ethylene glycol-water system before and after absorpting carbonyl sulfide was characterized by UV, FTIR, MS and NM method. The results showed that water added weakened interaction of the hydrogen bond of ethylene glycol, and carbonyl sulfur combined with ethylene glycol by hydrogen bond.
