Green manufacturing is the important characteristic for the development of manufacturing industry in the 21st century, and research on the correlative theories has become hotspots in recent years. Numerical control lathe is one of the major machine tools in machinery manufacturing industry, and implementing green manufacturing on NC lathe not only can reduce the manufacturing corporation's high energy consumption and pollution, but also it is significant to achieve the sustainable development. Green design is the key section in the course of the product's green manufacturing and as one of its major content, design for disassembly and recycling demands taking disassembly and recycling into consideration at the stage of the initial product design, so that it can make the product be convenient to disassembly and recycle, and ultimately achieve the minimal negative effect to the environment during the whole product life cycle.This paper, on the basis of lots of literature published on the domestic or abroad, from the starting point of green manufacturing thought, in direction of design for disassembly and recycling, takes research on disassembly and recycling problem for spindle system of NC lathe.(i) Based on green manufacturing ideas, a design theory of green numerical control lathe which is advantageous to disassembly and recycle is brought out, and it puts emphasis on analyzing and expounding the structure and character of the spindle system that is related to disassembly and recycling.(ii) By studying the theory of design for disassembly and recycling, an information model of spindle system which is designed for disassembly and recycling is built up, and disassembly analysis and recycling analysis are carried out. Thereinto the key techniques that have impact on disassembly and recycling including, disassembly direction determination, disassembly sequence programming, recycling process ascertaining and economic analysis of recycling.(iii) According to the above theory, designing research on spindle system of NC lathe is discussed, and an example of spindle system for CKA6150 NC lathe is designed. After creating its three dimension drawing by Pro/e software, this spindle system is decomposed. Disassembly analyse is proceeded, and recycling process scheme is discussed.(iv) By having research on evaluation method of design for disassembly and recycling, an evaluation model of spindle system that is designed for disassembly and recycling is built up, and then the before-designed spindle system is evaluated integrally and redesigned.
