This paper, firstly, based on the main technology characters in the punch forming of our lorry, puts forward a question on the bottleneck of key technology during the punch forming of medium plate. Then, it summarizes the background and development of CAD/CAE digitial technology and raises an urgent requirement on the key digitial technique used in the punch forming of medium plate in research and application .The increasing mature of three-dimensional CAD brings far-reaching effect on the designing techniques in manufacturing. At the same time we should pay attention to the fact that the onefold CAD System cannot satisfied the whole cycle in the digitial technology of punch forming, it needs general technology support of CAD/CAE techniques.At the respect of the basic theory it firstly states the basic knowledge of geometric model and assembly. Then, it expounds the elementary theory on mechanical model, materials, contact, unit and so on which relates to CAE.At the respect of the research and application of digitial technology, firstly it starts the work with solving the basic work which restrict skilled application on CAD/CAE, do some research and investigation to some key technology that puzzled our clients. The digitial technology of CAD including: the establishment of Pro/E model for indigenizatianal circumstance; intelligentlly automatic generation of standard component Bom; automatic calculation of typical punch forming technology, etc. The digitial technology of CAE including: skills of pretreatment, treating methods for common problems in Simulation Calculation; influence of sheet forming performance paraments on forming.At the respect of factual application of digitial technology. Takes Downside Door of C70 Gondola Car, Shell of The NSW Type Hand Brake, 12-Inch Hydro-Check's Front Cover and Porthole Cover of Grain Hopper Car and so on as subjects, by studying on general digitial methods of both DYNAFORM and Pro/E, expounds the regular cognizance about various typical forming processes. Consequently, the manufacturing of production will be more foreseeable and scientific.Lastly through colligating, analyzing to the research results, this paper brings conclusion which has general guide meaning by the CAD/CAE /CAM digitial technology,simultaneously some assumptions of the following steps are presented.
