With the development of the steel-making skills, the temperature and the composition are required more strictly in the continuous casting, accordingly Secondary Refining is required more strictly than before. So all the steel enterprises put the emphasis on the Secondary Refining gradually.The paper has studied systematically fluid flow behaviors in argon blowing process in ladle furnace and told more suitable position and quantity for blowing argon by means of water model and mathematical simulation, according to the Ladle Furnace of Shi Jiazhuang Iron and Steel Corporation. And it optimized the ladle construction and fluid flow behaviors, so it provided the molten steel with perfect temperature and composition. First the paper applied the commercial program PHOENICS to establish the mathematical simulation by the modificatory Navier-Stokes equation andκ-εtwo-equation, then selected the spots by golden section, and investigated the fluid flow behaviors in argon blowing process in ladle furnace. The final optimum radius was ascertained in the range of 350~560 millimeter. We considered the removal of inclusion, rapider ascending temperature and the longer furnace life, and suggested that the position for argon blowing should be located in 520 millimeter away from the center of the bottom. The 0.5-scale water model based on Froude number similitude criteria was set up to experiment. The ladle was made of polymethyl methacrylate. The argon was replaced by the air and controlled by the flowmeter. The paper studied the influences of the position and quantity of gas supply on fluid field, mixing time and the floatation of inclusions and adding position of tracking agent on mixing time via water model. And it told the suitable quantity for argon blowing and validated the final optimum outcomes calculated by computer.The thesis tells the suitable fluid field and velocity field as result of suitable position and quantity for argon blowing. And the ladle furnace turns into a better reactor of uniformity of the composition, floatation and removal of inclusions.
