Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the organic pollutants that surround the gangue were studied using organic geochemistry methods. The samples were taken from the Fengfeng Coal Mine Five and Jiulong Coal Mine located in Fengfeng district, Hebei Province. Using organic element test, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and trace elements test methods and so on, analysis the organic elements, soluble organic, saturated hydrocarbon (ALK), aromatic hydrocarbon (ARO) in the samples. As well as, the organic pollutants'characteristic in the surroundings of the gangue was discussed. By comparing the both gangues, some laws were summed up. And some theories were provided about managing organic pollutants in the area of mining. The results of the samples from the Fengfeng Coal Mine Five show that the content of organic elements in the surface of soil is far higher than that in the background soil, and along with the increase in distance the content is lower and the organic extracts are higher than the background soil in substance; also there is a linear relationship between organic extracts and organic carbon. 8 kinds PAHs of priority controlled by U.S. EPA were detected in the samples. There are three PAHs that naphthalene, fluoranthene, benzofluoranthene are found in the soil samples, but the contents are low.The contents of the organic elements in the samples from the sediments in river located in the Fengfeng Coal Mine Five are higher than that of Fuyang River, about 9 kilometers away from the gangue. The relationship between the organic extracts and organic carbon is linear. There are eight EPA priority PAHs were detected in the samples, and compared with samples from the Fuyang River, the results suggest certain pollution of PAHs.Along with the increase in distance, the organic content in the samples from the Jiulong Coal Mine has trend of first increase and then decrease. High content of organic elements near the gangue may be due to the influence of coal particles. There also is a linear relationship between the organic extracts and organic carbon. Eight PAHs are detected, and the content is relatively high. It suggests that there is certain pollution of PAHs on the environments.
