The product development speed has become the most challengeable factor in its design with the development of the serious market competition. The traditional engineering mechanical industry lacks of the market competition ability because of the long development period, high cost and aging products. The Virtual Prototype (VP) technology applies a powerful development measure to solve these problems. Its successful application can not only improve the product design method but also shorten the design period, and has important value to the engineering.In the paper, basing on the features and advantages of the VP technology, aiming at the exist shortages in the hydraulic support design, the VP technology is utilized to design and develop the hydraulic support, and the simulation researches of the hydraulic support design based on the VP technology from several aspects are carried out.With the full understanding of the status in quo and development tendency of the VP technology, the necessity to apply the VP technology to design the hydraulic support is demonstrated, and the theoretical frame of the hydraulic support design based on the VP technology is constructed.In the paper, three dimension models of the hydraulic support are built. By assembling relation, the three dimension model of the total hydraulic support is built. Basing on it, the finite element analysis model, the dynamics model and kinematics model of the hydraulic support are established. The statics, dynamics and kinematics simulations to multi-work situations of the hydraulic support are investigated.The example analysis results show that it is feasible to use the VP technology to design the hydraulic support, and that the simulation results agree with the practice situation of the hydraulic support. The research results in the paper have great guidance value to the engineering practice, and with the further research, they will have wide applications and more economic value.
