Purpose: EDCs is just a type of priority pollutant of huge hazard that pay many people's close attention. When garbage goes into the MSW landfill, the EDCs goes into the landfill leachate, among which DEHP is the one with the highest concentration. This paper has made some pilot study on the detection and removal of DEHP in leachate.Method: with five leachate samples having been sampled from different landfills in Wuhan city and establishment of GC method, the concentration of DEHP in each landfills have been analyzed, so have the COD, pH and NH3-N. Also this paper adopts flocculant and active carbon to remove DEHP in leachate in pilot study level, using FeCl3, Al2(SO4)3 and polyacrylamide as flocculant.Result: the detection result shows that concentration of DEHP is in high level, with the highest 289.30μg/L and the lowest 160.44μg/L. Compared with pH, COD and NH3-N, DEHP has the same trendline with NH3-N. Besides, considering the basic running data of each landfills, we can find that the way of seepage prevention influences the concentration most, the concentration of DEHP in landfill which adopt HDPE to prevent seepage is apparently higher than the one with natural seepage prevention, also whether running or closed and the running years contribute to the changes of concentration of DEHP in leachate. And the treatment result shows that both flocculant and active carbon are effective in removing DEHP in leachate. Among three flocculant, Al2(SO4)3 is the most effective, which can remove 68.52% DEHP in condition of pH being 6 and quantity being 0.2g/L. Active carbon, whose effect is among the flocculant, can remove 50.47% DEHP, in condition of pH being 7 and absorption time being 120min, with absorption saturation being 1.45mg/g.Conclusion: the concentration of DEHP in leachate of landfills is in high level, and influenced by NH3-N, running condition of landfills and the way of seepage prevention. In treating DEHP which is a kind of POPs ineffective to remove by traditional biology treatment, such simple chemical and physical treatment like flocculant and active carbon, only if running in appropriate condition, can also achieve a considerable effect.
