Robust Control Theory studies mainly the stability problem under disturb of parameters and outside conditions in the system,especially,the control problem for the system which the performances are influenced by the uncertainty in the system models. The basic principles,development state of the robust control and the design methods of robust controller were introduced based on the domestic and overseas researches in this paper.In the meanwhile,the applicability of various design methods of robust controller was discussed for the automatic gauge control system of hot strip rolling.Then robust performance of the hot strip production line was improved and impelled.And all of these were the technical storage for the application of robust control theory.The first,the development state and the basic method of the robust control,and the design method of the robust controller were explained briefly.Then the various methods for transferring control objects to standard H_∞control according to basic theory of robust control were deduced in this study.Some latest conclusions of H_∞control theory were introduced.The last,two efficient design methods of robust controller were analyzed and the example was simulated by Matlab toolbox.The principle and structure of some applied gauge control systems in hot strip rolling were enumerated in the study.The modeling flowchart of HAGC(Hydraulic Automatic Gauge Control)was found and simplified.Two methods were used to designed robust controller.According to the HAGC system in a 2150mm hot strip production line,an applied robust control system has been designed.
