Firstly, the basic theory and main methods of near-mirror-EDM is introduced. Then , the newly developed powder-mixed EDM(PMEDM) is deeply studied, some phenomenon and related explanation happened during PMEDM is particularly explained. Through analyzing the strength and weakness of the machine toll especially used for PMEDM, by using hydrocyclone which can classify and separate solid grain from liquid, a utility dielectric tank used for common EDM and PMEDM is designed, which provides the feasibility research for the integration of PMEDM. The practical results show that the utility dielectric tank can suit common EDM and PMEDM and prove some viewpoints related to PMEDM. Based on abundant machining time, reasonable discharge parameter and the designed tank, a plane of 5027mm 2 is gained with the surface roughness Ra= 0.148μm, which realizes the mirror PMEDM while the machined area is large.Finally, the structure of the hydrocyclone is designed by SolidWorks , subsequently, the flow field of the device and the isolation validity are simulated by COSMOS/FloWorks. The result reveals that the designed hydrocyclone can work well on the online-separation of impurity, which provides valuable technical support for reducing product-researching period.
