Carbonate modified quaternary ammonium ionic liquids were designed, synthesized and characterized by MS,1H NMR and 13C NMR.Melting points and glass transformation temperatures of them were determined by DSC. Through thermogravimetric analysis, decomposition temperatures of these ionic liquids are 227.5℃, 193.4℃and 236.4℃, respectively. The solubilities of these ionic liquids in several conventional solvents were investigated; they are all soluble in acetonitrile, DMF, DMSO and water. The solubilities of three ionic liquids in liq.CO2 or scCO2 were investigated, they are immiscible with liq.CO2 or scCO2(8.0MPa, 35℃).The cycloaddition of CO2 to epichlorohydrin to prepare Compound J, which is an intermediate of ILⅡ, can be catalyzed by polyether modified quaternary ammonium ionic liquids previously synthesized. The influence of the reaction conditions (temperature, pressure of carbon dioxide, time) and these ionic liquids' structures on this reaction were investigated. And the recycle of the catalyst was investigated too. After adding KI into the system as co-catalyst, the catalytic activity has a markedly increase.
