To research the effect of how Se alleviate the harm brought by Cd2+ , we investigated the root length, mitotic index, chromosomal aberration,micronuucleus by cultivating vicia faba in Cd and Se-Cd compounds.The results showed : when the concentration of Cd2+ was lower than 20μmol/L, the root length and mitotic of the root increased, micronucleus frequency of the root decreased;when the concentration of Cd2+ was higher than that,root length and mitotic of the root decreased, micronucleus frequency increased. And when the concentration of Cd2+ was 500μmol/L and cultivating for 96h,the length and mitotic index was 32.58% and 67.9% lower than the control,and the growth of Vicia Faba was inhibited the heaviest.Add the concentration of Se4+ of 0.5μmol/L,1.0μmol/L,5.0μmol/L,10μmol/L,50μmol/L to the Cd2+ of 500μmol/L ,the results showed that when the concentration was not higher than 1.0μmol/L when cultivating for 96h,the root length and mitotic index were 2.51% and 6.17% higher than the control,frequency of chromosomal aberration and micronucleus were near to the control;when the concentration was higher than 1.0μmol/L ,the mitotic index and the root length were lower than the control following the increasing of concentration,and when the concentration of Se4+ was 50μmol/L and cultivating for 96h, the mitotic index and the root length were 35.7% and 85.56% lower than the control;and when the concentration of Se4+ was higher than 1.0μmol/L frequency of chromosomal aberration and micronucleus increased following the increasing of concentration and cultivating days,but decreased in Se4+ of 50μmol/L and 96h.We found that the number of chromosomal fragment was higher than that of draggled chromosome,and the number of draggled chromosome was higher than that of chromosomal bridge,and we could hardly find chromosomal ring and multipolar division. We could find micronucleus in interphase,and mainly single micronucleus,and also in mitotic period we could find micronucleus.To some extent,the size of micronucleus in interphase also depended on cultivating concentration and daysAs mentioned above,Se of certain concentration can to some extent alleviate the toxicity brought by Cd2+ in the root of Vicia Faba ,but higher concentration of Se can enhance this toxicity .
