Amino-silicone oil has many advantages such as reactivity, lubricity andflexibility due to the amino groups attached on the molecular, so it is widely used as asoftener in textile. Piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane as a sort of silicone oil,has an excellent softness and smoothness, research of the relationship betweenpiperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane's structure and its performance isimportant.Piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane is prepared byα,ω-dihydroxy-polydimethylsiloxane and N-piperazine-propylmethydimethyoxysilane under alkalinecatalysts. A new method which control the amount of alkaline catalysts is presented tocontrol molecular weight. Qualitative and quantitative analysis by ~1H-NMR trackingare carried out to judge whether the reaction is completed. After dealing with themolecular weight and intrinsic viscosity, the parameters of the MHS equation foramino silicone are obtained.Nonionic surfactants AEO and TX, are used as emulsifier to prepareamino-silicone oil emulsion. Under experiment conditions, the better HLB value ofthe emulsifier for piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane is 11.5±0.5.The relationship between piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane's structureand its performance are researched. The results show that when amino groups in themiddle of the macro molecular chain, the emulsion prepared has better softeningability than that of amino groups at the ends of macro molecular chain. But it isopposite for the smoothness. Besides, For 50% neutralization, the emulsion givesbetter softness for cotton while 75% neutralization endows terylene with bettersoftness. When amino value, molecular weight, HLB value and emulsionconcentration are 0.5mmol/g, 70,000, 11.5, 1.69%, 3g respectively, it shows bestsoftening performance while for the smoothness, those numbers are 0.2mmol/g,130,000, 12.5, 2.92%, 1g respectively. Piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxanemixture of different amino value and different variety of amino silicone mixture showworse softness and better smoothness compared with single piperazine modified polydimethylsiloxane.
