In the present investigation, the dispersant used in the PVC suspension polymerization was studied. The mechanism of nucleation and the influencing factor was investigated according to the particle feature of PVC resin. In order to improve the particle feature of PVC resin, the formulation of the suspending system was optimized. The interfacial tension and colloid-protecting ability of single and mixture suspending system were studied. The rule that interfacial tension and colloid-protecting ability were influenced by the characteristic parameter, the total dosage, complex variety, and the ratio of dispersant was studied. The interfacial tension and colloid-protecting ability of suspending system were the summation of each component. This paper provided a basis for formulation design of PVC suspension polymerization.Polyvinyl chloride resin synthesized via suspension polymerization in a reactor with capacity of 375L and in another reactor of 4m~3 using different suspending systems which are single, binary, and three-component suspending systems. The role of total dose, complex variety, and the ratio of suspending agent on bulk density and absorption rate of plasticiser was studied.
